George M. Michaels

George M. Michaels, Democrat, was graduated from Cornell University in 1931. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1933. He is the senior member of the law firm of Michaels, Cuddy and Bertrand, of Auburn, New York. Assemblyman Michaels was first elected to the Assembly in the 1960 general election, and was re-elected in 1962 and 1964.

Mr. Michaels is a veteran of World War H. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a private in 1942. Upon his discharge from the service in 1945 he had the rank of captain. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Commendation Medal for his service in the Pacific.

Assemblyman Michaels served as a member of the Auburn City Council in 1949 and was elected to the Auburn Board of Education in May 1960.

Mr. Michaels is a past president of the Cayuga County Bar Association, past president of the Auburn Veterans Council, past commander of W. Mynderse Rice Post No. 97 of the American Legion and past president of Congregation B'nai Israel at Auburn, New York.

At the present time, Assemblyman Michaels is a member of the New York State Democratic Advisory Council, a member of the New York State Advisory Council on Mental Health.

Mr. Michaels is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Masons, Anar Grotto, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 40 & 8, Marine League, B'nai B.'rith, Cayuga County Museum, Auburn Golf and Club and Owasco Yacht Club.

He has been a member of the budget committee of the United Fund in Auburn and a director and treasurer of Family Service, Inc.

He is married to the former Helen S. Wetzler and resides at 10 Norman Avenue in Auburn. They have three sons, Lee, James and William.
