John M. McHugh

46th District (Jefferson and Oswego Counties and part of St. Lawrence County)

John M. McHugh, Republican, was born on September 29, 1948, and was educated in the City of Watertown public school system. After graduating from Watertown High School in 1966, he received a B.A. in Political Science from Utica College of Syracuse University and later earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Nelson A. Rockefeller Graduate School of Public Affairs.

Senator McHugh began his career in public service in his hometown of Watertown where he served for five years as Confidential Assistant to the City Manager. Thereafter, he joined the staff of his predecessor, Senator H. Douglas Barclay, where he served for nine years as Chief of Research and liaison with local governments

Mr. McHugh currently resides at 683 So. Hamilton Street in Watertown, New York 13601. He is a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau and the Benevolent Order of Elks. He is single.

In addition to his standing committee assignments, Senator McHugh is Chairman of the Legislative Commission on Dairy Industry Development and also serves on the Senate Special Committee on Casino Gambling, and Chairman of the Senate Majority Task Force on Defense Spending. He is also a member of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, a member of the Conference of Legislators, Committee on Arts and Tourism, a member of the Task Force on Aging in the 21st Century, a member of the American Society of Young Political Leaders, and an Alternate to the National Conference of Suite Legislators-Committee on Agriculture & Food Policy.
