William H. Steele

Of the Second district of Oswego was born at Windham Greene County, November 1, 1838, his parents being natives of Connecticut. He was educated at the common schools, the Delaware Literary Institute, Franklin and graduated in the class of 1858 at Yale College. He afterwards studied law and since his admission to the bar has been engaged in the practice of that profession, and has also conducted an Insurance business. He was the founder, Instructor, and Past Master of Victor Lodge, F. and A Masons, No 680 at Hart's Falls, Rensselaer County. In politics, Mr. Steele Is and always has been a Republican, but was never until his election to the Assembly of 1879 a candidate for political office. As a member of that body, he served on the Committees on Claims, Privileges and Elections, and Two-thirds and Three-fifths bills. He was re-elected to the Assembly of 1880 by a vote of 3,783 against 2,408 for J.W. Northrup, Democrat, and 38 for A.W. Green, Temperance. Mr. Steele is married and resides at Willlamstown.
